A luxurious housing project is being built in an old Amsterdam social housing neighbourhood, the Kolenkitbuurt. This new development is supposed to offer the existing community a new public park, but unfortunately the planned stairs are not very accessible for seniors.
Together with the existing community we have come up with a solution: Hello Bridge. It is a pedestrian bridge that leads to the elevated park in the shape of a snake. Here, due to the meandering route, people don’t encounter each other once but three times. The bridge is so narrow at places, so people will have to wait for each other in the widened curves to let each other pass. In a city where many people are lonely, it is nice to have a space where it is normal to say hello.
